I was raised on Jazz.  Brought up listening to Big Band Jazz played by the orchestras of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Earl Hines and Chick Webb.  Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, and Dinah Washington were also on the turntable.  The era’s greats,  playing on vinyl records and my parents’ radio, influenced my music psyche.

The likes of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie hearkened in the era of Bee Bop.  These sounds were strange to my young ears, but served as the foundation for my appreciation of Jazz today.

Art Blakely & The Jazz Messengers and other straight ahead musicians took me through my high school years.  Straight ahead and Avant Garde became du jour listening in college (John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Miles Davis, et. al).  The influence of Jazz continues to be the beat of my listening pleasure.

It has been my good fortune to meld my appreciation for Jazz with another passion – photography.  It is with sincerest respect that I attempt to pay homage to both with my images.
